PORTLAND, Ore. — A highway in the Oregon region hard hit by last week’s storms was covered with mud, trees, logs and debris Tuesday after a slide.
Officials at the Oregon Department of Forestry say at least two homes were hit by the slide. No injuries were reported.
The Oregon Department of Transportation closed U.S. 30 and evacuated nearby homes about 11:30 a.m. after debris from the storms clogged a creek. Debris was building under a railroad bridge upstream that showed signs of giving way, state officials said.
The slide followed shortly after the highway was closed.
The section of highway is about 5 miles west of Clatskanie along the Columbia River between Portland and the Oregon coast.
