MONROE — A first-ever spring recreation expo last month at Snohomish County’s Evergreen State Fairgrounds did slightly better than break even.

The April 24 and 25 showcase for outdoor recreation in the county netted about $615, a county parks department report shows. An estimated 5,420 people attended during the weekend, bringing in more than $6,500 in revenues from a carnival and food concessions. Expenses totaled just under $6,000 for staffing, equipment and marketing.

The expo promoted outdoor tourism, especially in the eastern part of the county. The mini-fair also was aimed at attracting more people to the Evergreen State Fair, which runs this year from Aug. 26 through Sept. 6.

Another spring expo is scheduled for next year.
