ARLINGTON — A 16-year-old girl was in critical condition Tuesday after she was rescued from the Stillaguamish River in Arlington.

She had been swimming with other teens at Twin Rivers Park, just off of Highway 530.

Parkgoers saw her at the bottom of the river and called for help around 2:20 p.m. Bystanders pulled the girl ashore and started CPR, said Shari Ireton, a spokeswoman with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl had been underwater for about three minutes, Ireton said.

Paramedics placed her on a backboard and floated her across the river to a waiting ambulance.

None of the teens were wearing life jackets, Ireton said.

Another 16-year-old drowned while swimming at Gissberg Twin Lakes one week ago.
