EVERETT — Two women were found dead in a central Everett home after a fire Saturday morning.

It was reported just before 6 a.m., city spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke said. Crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames, some shooting 30 feet high, she said. The location was in the 5800 block of Wetmore Avenue.

The fire appeared to have started in the back of the home, possibly in the family room, Pembroke said. The one-story, green-and-white house was destroyed. It was built in 1955 and assessed at $208,000, property records show. The listed owner is a woman in her 90s.

Quick work by firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby properties, though another home sustained damage to the siding, Pembroke said.

The cause of the fire remains has not been determined, “but investigators do not believe the fire is suspicious,” Pembroke said.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office was asked to conduct a death investigation. Initial reports from the city misstated the gender of one of the victims.
