Are Boeing’s promises of ‘safety culture’ just marketing?

Recent headlines proclaim Boeing efforts on safety (“Boeing to renew its safety culture after two 7373 Max crashes,” The Herald, May 24).

This, of course, is all hype to restore its fading image. Boeing airplanes have been very safe in the past; the 747 served for 50 years with no catastrophic failures related to its construction.

Translating the headline into popular parlance: “Boeing looks to return to its era of safety.”
