Ban of sale and use of private fireworks is necessary

I read Nick Matras’ letter to the editor (“Outright ban on fireworks by county is long overdue,” The Herald, July 6) and commend him for expertly relaying the sentiments of the vast majority of us who strongly believe that Washington state needs to (and should) ban the use of fireworks by anyone other than a supervised venue provided by those who sell and profit from the sale of fireworks.
It has sounded like a war zone around here for the past two weeks, and I just learned that we can look forward to an additional firework display close by next weekend by someone who obviously doesn’t care about anyone but themselves.
Kudos to Mr. Matras. If he ever decides to run for anything, he’s got my vote. We need a voice of reason around here.
