Does Everett want to be more like Seattle to get districts?

This in in response to Brenda Bolanos-Ivory’s June 28 letter to the editor regarding the Everett City Council districts question:

People in south Everett should not have to be spoon-fed political involvement. Ms. Bolanos-Ivory claims that many eligible residents aren’t registered to vote because they’re “too smart to waste their time if it won’t make a difference.” Curious logic.

The city is supposed to restructure politically to accommodate people who aren’t even voting? And candidates with the most money don’t always win. There are examples to the contrary at all levels, all over the country every year.

The Lowell candidate she mentions who lost five times probably lost because of his or her ideas or perhaps a lack of experience of qualifications. This is what all elections should be about.

At a neighborhood association meeting I attended, district proponents pointed out other cities that have gone to districts, usually as the cities have gotten bigger. But being more like Seattle in not necessarily a strong selling point for people in Everett.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a strong selling point for me.
