Our experiences have been positive

As of late, I have seen items in the paper calling into question the educational environment at the Lakewood School District. My children have been enrolled in the Lakewood School District for the last 12 years. We, as a family, moved to this area specifically so we could be in this school district. We have not been disappointed in the quality of education that our children have received here. I have had two children graduate from Lakewood High School and will have another graduate this year. I have the utmost confidence that my children are getting an education in a safe and nurturing environment.

I feel it is easy for individuals to take single incidents and point at the school district and say that because of that specific incident or this specific incident, this is a bad district or a bad school. Having had children in all of the schools in the district for all these years, I have seen negative situations occur, but the educational process is overwhelmingly a positive one.

Catherine Matthews is an excellent principal for the high school and has the unenviable task of managing a large group of employees and a sizeable student population. This job cannot be done without having some negative interactions from time to time. When a person only looks at the negatives, one might not get an accurate view of the total environment.

When we look at all the positive things that go on at the district, this truly is a wonderful district and a district that does have and will have my support for many years to come.
