Rights don’t extend to eliminating life

In regard to the July 30 letter by Ruth Douglas, “Women’s rights: Bush agenda to take away women’s rights”: I find what she said offensive. She stated that Bush demonstrates a severe lack of committment to a woman’s basic human rights. Are women the only humans who are entitled to human rights?

Everyone wants their rights: the right to cohabitate without marriage, the right to live as a homosexual, the right to bear arms and the list goes on for the “me” generation. We have people who fight for the rights of animals to be protected from extinction and they are considered heroes in the media. But when a group or person fights for the right of an unborn child they are ridiculed, mocked and made a joke of by trivializing the humanity of an unborn child.

Is it a woman’s right to have sexual relations indiscriminately and dispose of the consequences as she sees fit? She can ignore the facts of unprotected sex and can justify her actions by the standards of the Supreme Court.

I believe life is important in all species from human to plant: all are uniquely made and should have a right to live. Women’s rights should start with morals first and then the right to choose would not be an issue. If you want to put me in the right wing pocket be my guest because from where I sit the left wing pocket could crush me at any time for any reason.
