Why does FBI think it knows everything?

Again, justice has been denied to Leonard Peltier. Despite years of requests for FBI records to be released under the Freedom of Information Act, critical information has been withheld. Only within weeks of his hearing, and under the press of civil rights litigation, did the FBI release 11 boxes of 27-year-old records. With no time to give a proper review, Peltier’s parole lawyers were handicapped. More records are still being withheld by the Milwaukee office of the FBI. This is the same office that didn’t forward critical Sept. 11 information.
The FBI also withheld information about Timothy McVeigh until hours before his execution. With his execution, it is possible that an avenue to other information was lost. Maybe in 27 years we will find out that McVeigh’s actions were part of a larger terrorist conspiracy.
Why does the FBI continue to think it knows better than U.S. citizens or their elected officials?
