Zelensky fighting for democracy; who does Trump support?

Recently our country watched a disgusting display of “diplomacy” from our nation’s leaders play out live on television. We witnessed the type of arrogance that only Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and a few other self-absorbed dictators dare to display in public in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Why are the president and vice president of the United States “baiting” an ally into a trap? Was it a means by which to turn public opinion against Ukraine and garner favor from Vladimir Putin? Why was Trump so angered by Zelensky berating Putin during the meeting? After all Putin has killed over thousands of Ukrainians, kidnapped women and children (relocating them to Russia), caused billions in damages to Ukrainian property and occupied 20 percent of their country.

Why is Trump so willing to come to the defense of a brutal dictator while waging a trade war with Canada and weakening our NATO and European alliances. Does Trump really believe Americas best interest is in rewarding a dictator like Putin while showing his own personal weakness to China?

For almost 250 years the United States has held the light of democracy against the darkness of tyranny and supported the oppressed against the subjugation by the more powerful. In just thirty days Trump has upended what our fathers and forefathers fought and died for.

We now support those who would normally be our adversary and ridicule those who have been our friends and allies. For four more years we’ll have to live with Trump but can we live with ourselves?
