A large contingent from the Everett Expressions Artistic Roller Skating club will be making a trip to the Midwest next month – with visions of heading Down Under in the fall.

Seventeen Everett Expressions skaters earned trips to the national championships by winning medals at the 2007 Northwest Regional Figure Skating Championships held June 16-18 in Portland, Ore.

Track and field

Hern garners first All-America honor: Georgia Tech sophomore Kimery Hern earned a place on the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor All-America team with a record-setting toss.

Hern, a South Whidbey High School graduate, set a Georgia Tech record and finished ninth in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships held June 6-9 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of the University of California Sacramento.

Hern’s throw of 196 feet, 7 inches was a personal-best and led to her first All-America selection.

According to a press release on the school’s Web site, Hern also became the first female thrower in Georgia Tech history to earn All-America honors.

Bowling

Everett bowler rolls 811 series: Richard Little of Everett bowled a perfect game en route to rolling the second 800 series of his 20-year bowling career.

Little, who bowls in the Thursday Night Spring Classic league at Everett’s Glacier Lanes, rolled games of 300, 266 and 245 en route to an 811 series on June 14.

Little, 35, began bowling 20 years ago. He said in a phone interview that his average score was around 222. Little also said that was not his first 300 game and that he rolled an 801 series several years ago.

Little will receive two rings from the U.S. Bowling Association to commemorate the events – one for the 300 game and one for the 800 series.
