EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox took a five-run lead in the third inning and held on to defeat the Vancouver Canadians 7-5 Wednesday before 2,483 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The win gave Everett (7-7) the series victory over the Canadians (9-5) and marked the home debut of Seattle Mariners 2017 first-round draft pick Evan White.
White finished 0-for-2 as the designated hitter. He has been battling quad tightness that kept him out for three games following his pro debut last Saturday.
Everett starter Andres Torres (2-0) worked into the seventh and allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks while fanning six.
Wyatt Mills, Seattle’s third-round pick out of Gonzaga, allowed one run and struck out two in the ninth to earn the save.
The AquaSox took the lead with a three-run bottom of the second. Austin Grebeck hit a two-run home run and Juan Camacho had an RBI double to give Everett a 4-2 lead. Everett tacked on three more in the third with an RBI single by Camacho and an RBI triple by Brayan Hernandez.
The Canadians scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Kacy Clemens opened the scoring when he launched a two-run home run in the top of the first to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
The AquaSox got one back in the bottom of the inning when Eugene Helder’s double scored Joseph Rosa who led off the inning with another double.
Helder finished with three doubles for Everett.
