Everett Community College will be front and center when the Northwest Athletic Conference holds its 2021 NWAC Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Two Trojan athletes, one contributor and one team are among those who will be inducted during a virtual ceremony on June 23.
The two athletes being inducted are Rick Anderson and Shirley Hauter.
Anderson, a Mariner High School graduate, was a pitcher for Everett’s baseball team from 1976-77, winning 19 games over two years. Anderson went on to play in three seasons in Major League Baseball with the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals from 1986-88 before embarking on a long coaching career, most recently serving as the Detroit Tigers’ pitching coach in 2020.
Hauter was a multi-sport athlete at Everett from 1967-69, playing softball, field hockey, basketball and tennis. She was a member of Everett’s women’s basketball team that placed third in the league in 1969. After her time at Everett she had success in both golf and rowing.
The contributor is Larry Walker, who was a fixture at Everett from 1985-2016, both as men’s basketball coach and athletic director. He compiled a 404-474 record in 31 years as men’s basketball coach, and as athletic director he oversaw the expansion of the Trojans’ athletic programs and the building of the Walt Price Student Fitness Center.
The team is the 1952 Everett football squad, coached by Walt Price, which won the Washington State Conference championship, outscoring its opponents 236-32. The team beat highly ranked teams from Vallejo and Monterey, and its only loss came in a non-league exhibition game against the semipro Seattle Ramblers.
One other individual being inducted is Monroe High School graduate Tim Babcock, who won NWAACC men’s soccer championships at Skagit Valley College both as a player and a coach.
