Community sports roundup: Jackson alum stars for Boise St.

Kristina Serres has helped the Broncos’ women’s soccer team to the top seed to its conference tourney.

The Boise State University women’s soccer team earned its first ever Mountain West Conference regular season title this year, and Kristina Serres was right in the middle of it.

Serres, a junior forward for the Broncos and a Jackson High School graduate, has played a key role for a Boise State team that went 7-2-2 in league and 13-4-2 overall to share the Mountain West’s regular season championship with Wyoming and New Mexico.

Serres has started all 19 of the Broncos’ games, leading the team with seven assists.

Boise State takes the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament, which begins Tuesday in San Jose, California.

Marysville youth football team invited to regionals

The Marysville Youth Football Juniors (11 year olds) have been selected to compete in the Pro Football Hall of Fame World Youth Championship. The Marysville Juniors, who were a perfect 8-0 during the North Sound Junior Football League’s regular season, will compete in the Northwest Regional, which takes place Nov. 23-25 at Archbishop Murphy High School and Jackson High School. Winners advance to the national championship Dec. 7-16 in Canton, Ohio.

Edmonds CC volleyball moves up in poll

The Edmonds Community College volleyball team climbed two spots in the Northwest Athletic Association coaches poll. The Tritons (10-0 league, 27-6 overall), who are riding a 16-match winning streak, moved up to No. 4 in the poll after being ranked No. 6 two weeks earlier.

In the men’s soccer poll, Everett (9-6, 12-8) fell one spot to No. 8. The Trojans finished as the North Region’s No. 3 seed and faces West Region No. 2 Tacoma in a play-in game for the NWAC Soccer Championships on Wednesday in Tacoma.

In the women’s soccer poll Edmonds (8-6-1, 9-6-2) dropped out after being tied for seventh previously. The Tritons earned the North Region’s No. 3 seed and faces West No. 2 Bellevue in a play-in game Wednesday in Bellevue.

Locals make GNAC All-Academic soccer teams

Several Snohomish County high school graduates were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s soccer All-Academic teams. Selections must have sophomore standing or greater, a minimum of a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be on the roster for the full season.

Women’s team selections included Central Washington’s Kelsey Bechtholdt (Granite Falls), Madison Bradley (Monroe) and Emily Minogue (Snohomish), Northwest Nazarene’s Olivia Carter (Jackson) and Rikki Myers (Jackson), Seattle Pacific’s Kaytlin Willis (Snohomish), Western Oregon’s Alexie Morris (Kamiak) and Western Washington’s Liv Larson (Arlington).

Men’s team selections included Montana State Billings’ Christian Thode (Archbishop Murphy), Saint Martin’s Jason Fairhurst (Snohomish), Seattle Pacific’s Samuel Agyei (Cascade) and Western Washington’s Jeremiah Lee (Grace Academy).
