Cougars hold off Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho — Reggie Moore came off a screen and hit a jump shot from the corner with just under a second to play, lifting Washington State to a 66-64 victory over Idaho on Wednesday night.
Moore scored 15 points and Brock Motum added 12 for the Cougars (5-4).
“We moved the ball around, and they ran a good screen for me,” Moore said. “I came off the screen and dribbled and pulled up and hit the shot at the end.”
The Vandals (4-4) were led by Stephen Madison, whose 18 points made him the only Idaho player in double digits. Deremy Geiger had four steals, and Idaho ended the game with 10 steals.
The Vandals had tied it at 64 on Landon Tatum’s short jumper with 25 seconds left. That was Tatum’s only basket of the night.
“Idaho had more energy than we did in the second half,” Washington State coach Ken Bone said. “They outplayed us. We were fortunate to have the ball in our hands at the end of the game.”
Washington State (5-4) beat its cross-border rival for the ninth straight time.
Idaho fought back from a 12-point deficit in the first half after shooting only 31 percent. The Vandals went 15 of 25 (60 percent) in the second half to help them come back.
“I think we battled very hard in the second half,” Vandals coach Don Verlin said. “That is a well-coached team, and they gave us problems in the first half.”
