MUKILTEO — The Kamiak Knights boys tennis team had coach Victor Alinen wondering “what if” after losing 6-1 to Edmonds-Woodway in a Wesco South meet Friday.

In three matches, the Knights led in the second set after winning the first and wound up losing in three.

“We could have walked away with a 4-3 win instead of a 6-1 loss,” Alinen said.

“It killed me. This was for first place.”

E-W remained unbeaten at 6-0 in the division. Kamiak (4-1) suffered its first defeat.

At No. 1 doubles, Kamiak’s Matt Patterson and Kenichi Kato lost a second-set tiebreaker and had a third-set service break to fall 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Max Ortiz and Steven Maldazys.

“(That match) was just fun to watch,” Alinen said.

Kamiak’s Abe Ahn won an 11-9 first-set tiebreaker and led 4-1 in the second before falling to Ryan Cho.

The Knights’ No. 3 doubles team led 5-3 in the second set only to lose in a tiebreaker.
