Who’s going the furthest?

The high school football state tournaments begin this week, and three area schools remain in the hunt. Those three teams are Lake Stevens in 4A, Snohomish in 3A and Darrington in 1B. The first round of state is this weekend (with the exception of 1B, as noted below).

So which surviving local school will advance the furthest? That’s the question for this week’s Seattle Sidelines poll.

More detailed information about each team is provided in capsule form following the poll to help you in your voting (rankings are from last week). As a bonus, let us know just how far you believe your selection will advance in the comments section, either in the poll itself or below the entire post.

LAKE STEVENS VIKINGS

Classification: 4A

Record: 10-0, No. 1 seed from Wesco 4A

AP rank: No. 2

How they got here: Beat NPSL No. 7 Kentlake 56-0 at home on Friday

Seed: No. 3

Opponent: SPSL No. 4 Curtis (7-3), unranked in the state

Game date: 7 p.m. Friday at Lake Stevens

Notable: Lake Stevens is the area’s traditional power, as this is the fifth straight year the Vikings have advanced to state. Lake Stevens lost to Graham-Kapowsin 38-31 in the first round last year, but the Vikings advanced to the semifinals as recently as 2015.

SNOHOMISH PANTHERS

Classification: 3A

Record: 8-2, No. 1 seed from Wesco 3A

AP rank: t-No. 9

How they got here: Beat Metro No. 5 Garfield 42-35 at home on Friday

Seed: No. 13

Opponent: KingCo No. 1 Bellevue (10-0), ranked No. 2 in the state

Game date: 7 p.m. Friday at Bellevue

Notable: This is Snohomish’s first state berth since 2007, when the Panthers lost 37-13 to Edmonds-Woodway in the first round. Snohomish had been knocking on the door, however, losing in the play-in game to state each of the previous three years.

DARRINGTON LOGGERS

Classification: 1B

Record: 3-7, No. 7 seed from Quad-District

AP rank: unranked

How they got here: Beat Quad-District No. 10 Evergreen Lutheran 55-26 at home on Friday

Seed: Still a week away from state

Opponent: Quad-District No. 2 Quilcene (9-0), unranked in the state

Game date: Friday at Silverdale Stadium in Bremerton, time TBD

Notable: This is technically a play-in game for state, which is just eight teams for 1B. Darrington, which is playing eight-man for the first time, hasn’t been to state since 2013, when the Loggers lost 64-0 to Morton-White Pass as an 11-man team.
