MUKILTEO — Kamiak head coach Cory West believes his team is starting to come together and that could be a dangerous situation for the rest of the Wesco 4A conference.
The Knights utilized a solid defensive effort and well-balanced scoring attack to topple Stanwood 69-56 Tuesday in a boys basketball contest.
Imaan Vicente led all scorers with 17 and also pulled down 10 rebounds while Ron Manchester poured in 15 points and Nicholas Kussman added 14.
The defense, though, was perhaps the bigger story as they held Stanwood’s leading scorers to single digits, including 6-foot-5 forward Jordan Taylor, who finished with a team-high nine points for the Spartans.
“They just kept them out of the post,” West said in reference to the trio of defenders Kamiak used in guarding Taylor and company. “Obviously (Taylor) was working hard to get the ball and when he did get it, we were able to keep him from scoring.”
The Knights were also 14-for-14 at the free-throw line.
“Just keep playing together and having fun,” said West of what his team needs to do to build on Tuesday’s win. “That’s a big thing we’ve been trying to tell them … We have just one home game left so we need to keep up the intensity we are bringing on the road, that’s going to be key for us down the stretch.”
