ARLINGTON — Junior Madison Schultz scored in the 56th minute to lead Edmonds-Woodway to a 1-0 win over Ferndale in a 3A District 1 Tournament match Tuesday night.

The win advances the Warriors to Saturday’s district championship against Shorewood, and also gives them an automatic berth to the state tournament.

“They’re super excited,” Edmonds-Woodway head coach Bill LeCompte said of the Warriors. “They are pretty fired up and they are looking forward to playing Shorewood on Saturday.”

A long punt by EW junior goalkeeper Kiera Towell was misplayed by a Ferndale defender, and Schultz made her pay, weaving 20 yards through the Golden Eagles defense before finding the back of the net.

“She’s always in the right place and she’s found the net quite a few times,” LeCompte said.

Towell also earned the shutout in goal for the Warriors, who have now recorded three straight clean sheets.
