LACEY — Twentieth-seeded Stanwood opened the 3A state tournament with a loser-out win over No. 13 Ballard.
Stanwood (13-12) advanced to face No. 4 Bonney Lake in a Round 2 non-elimination game at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Ballard finished its season with an overall record of 20-7.
