MARYSVILLE – The starting five for the Mountlake Terrace girls basketball team scored all the Hawks’ points to dispatch the Monroe Bearcats 62-58 in a loser-out 4A District 1 playoff game Thursday night at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
“We introduced a little bit of a different rotation to try some things out,” Mountlake Terrace coach Deidra Ducheane said. “We wanted to add some speed and some of the younger players and if definitely worked out for us tonight.”
The Hawks spread the scoring around with four of the five starters scoring in double figures. Nikki Mosman led the way with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
“She hit some key 3-pointers in the first half,” Ducheane said. “She was definitely the spark in first half.”
Tatiana Heck added 15, Bianca Rowland had 12, Kerstin Torrescano scored 11 and Jessica Buxton had eight.
Monroe was paced by Keena Hopkins’ 20 and Chelsea Drivstuen’s 13.
Monroe was playing without leading scorer junior Sarah Morton who has been out with a torn anterior crucial ligament since January 27th.
“I think it is a huge thing, anytime you take 17 points away from your offense it definitely is going to effect your team,” Ducheane said.
Mountlake Terrace plays the loser of today’s game between Lake Stevens and Jackson at 8 p.m. Tuesday at M-P.
