EVERETT — Everett Silvertips head coach Dennis Williams will serve as head coach for Team Canada Black at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in early November in New Brunswick.

The announcement came Thursday from Hockey Canada, which sends three teams to the annual event that helps determine Team Canada rosters for additional international tournaments.

“It’s an extremely exciting challenge that makes me look forward to meeting all of the staff and players who will participate,” Williams said in a press release. “I’m ready to embrace the task of helping develop an excellent camp experience and prepare players for tournament competition.”

The 38-year-old Williams was named the Western Hockey League Coach of the Year after leading the Silvertips to their second-ever Western Conference title.

Tips defenseman Ronan Seeley, Everett’s first-round selection in 2017, will compete at the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase later this month in Calgary. The showcase helps determine Team Canada’s three rosters for November’s Hockey Challenge.

Hockey Canada also announced Thursday that incoming captain Connor Dewar has been invited to compete in the Sport Chek World Junior Showcase beginning July 28 in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Dewar is one of 40 players invited to the event that helps determine Team Canada’s roster for the World Junior Championship.
