Tips sign Darian Henry

Today the Tips announced the signing of Darian Henry to a WHL education contract. Henry, a 16-year-old defenseman, is the younger brother of former WHLer Jordan Henry. He was Everett’s seventh-round pick in the 2009 bantam draft. He won’t be playing for the Tips this season as he was reassigned two weeks ago.
Henry became the sixth player from the 2009 bantam draft to sign with the Tips. In fact, Everett can field a full starting lineup with its signings from that draft: forwards Jari Erricson (second round), Kohl Bauml (third round) and Jordyn Boyd (sixth round), defensemen Nick Walters (first round) and Henry, and goaltender Andy Desautels (fifth round). That’s a hefty number of signings from one class, considering the players haven’t begun their 16-year-old season yet. Erricson, Walters and Desautels are all candidates to make the team this season, with Erricson and Walters in particular looking like good bets.
Of course, there’s one prominent name from that draft class whose status is still up in the air. We’ll have to wait and see whether the Tips can ever get their other first-round defenseman, Seth Jones, here to Everett.
