Sporting events and registration info in Snohomish County

Cornhole, horseshoe pitching and racing events this month; YMCA fall youth sports registration closes Sunday.

As the sun sets a little earlier and the days get closer to the first day of school, there’s still a few more Snohomish County sporting events to take part in this summer.

Boys and Girls Club cornhole tournament

The Monroe Boys and Girls Club is hosting the Summer Cornhole Tournament Aug. 23-24 to help raise funds for the chapter’s sports program.

Registration fees are $40 for middle school, $50 for high school and $75 for adult teams.

Visit Monroe’s club website or any of the Boys and Girls Clubs’ websites to register.

Ringer, ringer: final nearest horseshoe pitching tournament of the year

The Washington State Horseshoe Pitching Association State Singles tournament will be held at the Skagit Valley Horseshoe Club (1720 E. Whitmarsh Road) in Burlington from Aug. 31-Sept. 1. This is the Association’s final event for the year that’s nearest to Snohomish County.

The tournament is in singles format with cancellation scoring. Check-in time is 8:30 a.m., and pitching begins at 9 a.m. The adult entry fee is $40 and free for juniors 18 years old and younger. The deadline to register is Aug. 22.

Visit the association’s website (wshpa.com) to fill out the entry form. For more information, contact tournament director Rhonda Davis at 253-831-0111 or donald.rhonda.davis@outlook.com.

Let’s go racing

Don’t put away the goggles, ear plugs and blankets quite yet as there are still more events at Burlington’s Skagit Speedway (4796 Old Highway 99 N.), including the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals from Aug. 29-31.

All three nights feature the Kubota High-Limit Racing 410 Sprint Cars where the rubber tires meet the dirt for a racer to win $100,000. The first night is supplemented with the NW Focus Midgets and the second night with the Sportsman Sprint Cars.

Pits open at 1 p.m., gates at 5 p.m. and hot laps begin at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or in person.

Visit Skagit Speedway’s website (skagitspeedway.com) for more information.
