VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Recently-signed Jermaine Blackburn scored 32 points, but it wasn't enough as the Snohomish County Explosion dropped a 128-120 decision to the West Division-leading Vancouver Volcanoes in International Basketball League action Friday night.
"(Vancouver) shot extremely well," Explosion coach Randy Redwine said. "They made a lot of shots and played good team defense."
Foul trouble plagued Snohomish County, as four explosion players fouled out.
"It was a close game -- then we had four guys foul out," Redwine said.
Justin James recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Explosion before fouling out.
Redwine implied that the loss of the small forward -- who averages 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest -- especially hurt.
"(Foul trouble) has been an issue with certain referees," Redwine said. "Every game the foul ratio has been about 70-30 (against Snohomish County).
Jamaal Miller chipped in 25 points for the Explosion, but Redwine was unhappy with his team's performance.
"I'm never pleased with a loss," he said. "It's our second loss in a row and I haven't experienced (consecutive losses) in the last two years."
The Explosion returns to action tonight at Monroe High School against the Jazz of Tacoma at 7:15 p.m.
Explosion sign guard: Snohomish County signed Jermaine Blackburn, a 6-foot-seven shooting guard from Boise State University. Blackburn was an All-Star in the CBA last year with the Yakama Sun Kings.
