Sultan jumps ahead early, rolls to girls baskeball victory

SULTAN – The Sultan Turks were ahead 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and continued their dominance throughout the game by picking up a 72-26 victory over Friday Harbor in a girls non-conference basketball game.

“We had a good team effort, both offensively and defensively,” Sultan coach Matt Koehler said.

The Turks were led by Lola Nelson, who scored 17 points and added nine rebounds, and Natalia Valdez who grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with her seven points and five steals.

“We had 25 team assists and held them to only six field goals,” Koehler said.

Sultan is 1-1 overall. Friday Harbor fell to 1-2.
