The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has canceled a Stage 1 Burn Ban for Snohomish County.

Monday’s rain cleared the air.

Although the burn ban has been canceled, remember that the permanent ban on outdoor burning in urban areas remains in effect, and that excess chimney smoke is illegal. If you do use a wood stove or fireplace, be sure to burn properly to get the most heat with the least smoke.

For more information, call 800-552-3565 or go to www.pscleanair.org or burningclean.com.

Advance arrivals signal spring

Grant Barrie of Lake Stevens calls The Herald each spring to report that swallows showed up at his place of employment, De Jong Sawdust and Shavings in Lake Stevens.

They’re back. The birds are migrating northward from their winter homes in Central and South America.

Cliff swallows traditionally appear annually on March 19 at Mission San Juan Capistrano in California.

Correction

A charity motorcycle rally to help the family of Jesica Aldrete will take place May 14 at Paraiso’s restaurant in Arlington. Aldrete is in a coma after being hit by a driver police say was driving drunk. A story on page A1 Sunday confused the date of a benefit auction with the date of the rally.
