Center dedicated to honor activists
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is dedicating Lime Kiln Point Interpretive Center today on San Juan Island in honor of orca activist Karen Hanson Munro of Olympia.
The center is made possible, in part, by a donation from longtime orca activists Karen Hanson Munro and her husband, Ralph Munro, former secretary of state for Washington.
The center, converted from an old Coast Guard garage, features orca models, a replica of an orca dorsal fin, and interactive displays and activities about killer whales.
The center also offers interpretive features focusing on the mining of lime in the old lime kiln for which the park was named. The park is about 10 miles from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.
