Cascade soph ties record

ARLINGTON — Cascade sophomore Dylan Hopper tied the 3.1-mile course record at River Meadows Park, finishing first in 16 minutes, 35 seconds in a Wesco boys cross country meet Thursday.

Garrett Van Swearing of Edmonds-Woodway set the record in 2005.

Taylor Wolfe led a Snohomish sweep of the third through seventh places, pushing the Panthers to the team victory with 25 points. Arlington and Cascade tied for second with 55 points, but the Bruins took second because their sixth runner — Aaron Campbell — finished ahead of the Eagles’ sixth.

Lake Stevens 33, Edmonds-Woodway 33, Everett 57, Mariner 106: At Everett, Justin Marshall finished 17th, four places ahead of Edmonds-Woodway sixth runner, to give the Lake Stevens Vikings a tiebreaker win over the Warriors in a Wesco meet. E-W’s Yon Yilma finished first followed by a pair of Vikings. The Wariors also claimed eighth, ninth and 11th. The Vikings took fifth, 10th and 13th — and that all important 17th.

Oak Harbor 18, Shorewood 43, Meadowdale DNQ: At Lynnwood, Oak Harbor swept the top three places to easily win the overall title at the Wesco meet. Kyle King won with a time of 15 minutes, 40 seconds. Teammates Steve and Alex Nydum finished second and third, respectively, both with times of 15:52. Shorewood’s Chip Jackson was fourth at 15:43 and Alex Brock was sixth with 16:36. Meadowdale’s top finisher was Adam Weyant with a time of 17:01 for an eighth-place finish.

Girls cross country

Lake Stevens 16, Everett 55, Mariner 84, Edmonds-Woodway DNQ: At Everett, the first four runners across the line were all from Lake Stevens. Led by Sam Minor’s first-place finish, the Vikings dominated the Wesco meet. Lake Stevens runners took eight of the top-10 places.
