Camano Island: Eat as colonists did
The South Camano Grange plans a historically authentic Thanksgiving dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The menu does not include mashed potatoes and stuffing, but instead features the poultry, Wampanoag Indian cuisine and old English offerings colonists and American Indians shared during the first Thanksgiving in 1621. The group plans to use only the food and cooking techniques available during the first Thanksgiving.
The event will be held at the South Camano Grange, 2222 S. West Camano Drive.
Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Snow Goose Bookstore in Stanwood. Children under 6 eat free.

Marysville: Makeover of downtown planned
The Marysville City Council on Tuesday approved the hiring of consultants to plan a redevelopment of the downtown and waterfront area.
The city’s goal is to transform the area into a more parklike, pedestrian-oriented setting, with high-rise housing, retail businesses and offices.
The consultants hired under a $200,000 contract will be led by Makers Inc. of Seattle.
The study area is bordered by Ebey Slough, Eighth Street, I-5 and Alder Avenue. The public will have chances to provide input on the plans, city officials said.
The city has already rezoned downtown to encourage more mixed uses, greater density and taller buildings and has developed new design standards for the area.
