50 years ago (1957)

Annexation of a 57-acre tract that would extend the city limits out to Berkshire Drive west of Highway 99 was virtually approved after city commissioners accepted a petition bearing signatures of more than 80 percent of property owners. About 600 people would become Everett citizens on Feb. 1. It was the second such annexation. About 15 families in the Darlington and Queen Anne Additions on Mukilteo would join the city on Jan. 1.

Ted Ward, representing H&D, Inc., 6515 Evergreen Way, presented a certificate to Lloyd Anderson, 2121 Melvin St., first-place winner in a nationwide contest sponsored by United State Plywood Corporation.

25 years ago (1982)

Bobbie Tuengel recently retired from Bobbie’s Cafe on Hewitt Avenue. She and her husband Ernie were looking forward to fishing and camping with their seven grandchildren. Patrons, including Fred Moe and Phil Cunningham, said she was already missed.

The Arlington Eagles winged back to their favorite perch, the Kingbowl, with a 7-6 victory over Othello in a AA state semifinal brawl in 20-degree Zaepfel Stadium. The 10-2 Eagles, gunning for their second state championship in four years, next played the Centralia-Franklin Pierce winner in Kingbowl VI.
