Squalicum sinks Oak Harbor

OAK HARBOR — Oak Harbor trailed early and couldn’t recover in an 82-56 loss to Squalicum in non-league basketball action Saturday.
The Storm built a 22-12 advantage after one quarter, but Oak Harbor outscored Squalicum 17-15 in the second quarter to climb to within six at the break.
However, Squalicum extended its lead in the third period before blowing the game open with 27 points in the fourth quarter.
“We got beat up bad,” Oak Harbor coach Mike Washington said.
Squalicum’s Nick Stackhouse scored 26 points on the strength of three three-pointers, Patrick Voeut had 16 points and Keith Stackhouse and Derek Dickerson each had 12 as Squalicum shot 8-of-22 from the perimeter.
Rodrick Rumble had 18 points and Robert Brooks had 13 to lead Oak Harbor, who shot 4-of-15 from three-point range.

Coupeville 74, Austrailian Travellers 60: At Coupeville, the Wolves hit six three-pointers in the third quarter, including three by Zepher Loesch, to turn a 33-33 halftime tie into a 59-40 third-quarter lead, and held on for the non-league victory.
“We sped up the game on them (in the second half),” Coupeville coach Randy King said.
Brian Miller had 15 points and seven rebounds, James Smith had 12 points and five assists, and Loesch added seven assists for Coupeville.

Sultan 53, Vashon 39: At Sultan, the Turks overcame Vashon’s hot three-point shooting and 16 points from Vashon sophomore star Kelly Costello to win the non-league contest.
“It was a great team effort,” Sultan assistant coach Craig Bekins said. “I thought we played extremely well.”
Morgan Thomas led Sultan with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Breianna O’Hara had 11 points and Rebecca Postyeni had six assists, three steals, and “played great defense” according to Bekins.
