Shippers will be busy across the U.S. today

Today is projected to be the busiest shipping day of the year, with the U.S. Postal Service expecting nearly 1 billion cards, letters and packages to be mailed.

This includes 275 million cards and letters, compared with 82 million on an average day.

FedEx expects to handle 11.3 million packages, the most ever processed by its network in a single day. The Memphis, Tenn.-based shipper usually moves more than 7 million packages on an average day.
