SNOHOMISH — The Snohomish Panthers had seven wrestlers in championship matches and four came out winners, but Mead High School edged Snohomish 259-254 in the team standings at the Snohomish Panther Classic on Saturday.

Snohomish coach Kevin Judkins said his team knew Mead would be a formidable test.

“Our goal was to be first,” he said. “(This) puts us in the right spot with a ways to go. We’re going to keep working on things and we’re going in the right direction…we’re a little banged up right now.”

Mead came out on top of what proved to be a lopsided event, as third-place Olympic tallied just 159 points.

“It was kind of a two-team runaway,” Judkins added.

Snohomish’s Raylin Lucey defeated Olympic’s Camie Yeik 9-3 to win the 103-pound match, and the Panthers’ Stefan St. Marie pinned Mount Baker’s Dawson Patrick in 3:46 to win the 135-pound championship. Brad Perry won a 14-6 decision over Mead’s Ben Snow and John Garcia topped Mead’s Nick Bond 8-4 at 145 pounds to round out the Panther champions.

Finishing second for Snohomish were Sam Ottow (125), Luke Perry (130), and Jake Reinhard (285).

Kamiak placed fourth overall, but had no wrestlers place higher than third. Cascade placed 13th and also had no wrestlers place higher than third.
