MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck swept all three relay events, but that didn’t keep a pair of indivudals from stealing the spotlight in a 109-77 Wesco North boys swimming defeat of Oak Harbor Tuesday.
Tomahawks junior Trevor LeValley had a hand in four event victories while sophomore Oliver Durand contributed to three. Each won two individual events and LeValley was on two first-place relay squads.
LeValley also had a state-qualifying time of 1:49.22 to win the 200-yard freestyle in a heated contest with Oak Harbor’s John Hu, who also qualified for state with a time of 1:49.29.
“They’re two of our top kids,” M-P coach Scott Knowles said of Durand and LeValley. “Trevor is probably our top swimmer and Oliver does a lot of things well for us.”
Both Durand and LeValley swam a leg on Marysville-Pilchuck’s 400 freestyle team, which took first with a 3:32.39. LeValley helped the Tomahawks get off to a good start in the meet with a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay, which earned a state-qualifying time of 1:44.43.
“Our relays have been good for us at times,” Knowles said. “It just kind of depends on how we match up.”
