A win to go for M-P

ARLINGTON — The Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks boys basketball team controls its own destiny as it vies with the four teams for the last three Wesco North District 1 playoff berths.

The Tomahawks put themselves within a win of nailing down a berth with a 62-40 victory over Arlington Tuesday night to remain in second place in the division behind front-runner Snohomish. M-P plays Oak Harbor in its regular season finale on Thursday.

Lake Stevens, Monroe and Stanwood also remain in contention.

M-P assured itself of at least a tiebreaker scenario with Tuesday’s victory as the Tomahawks can finish no worse than in a four-way tie for second place.

Taylor Stevens wanted to leave no doubt of the Tomahawks’ intentions, scoring 16 of his game-high 30 points in the first half.

“He played really well,” Arlington assistant coach Joe Marsh said. “He does everything as he can play inside as well as outside.”
