EDMONDS — The Mountlake Terrace Hawks dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night but can still take something from it.
The Hawks dropped a 1-0 Wesco South contest to the Kamiak Knights at Edmonds District Stadium Tuesday night.
Kamiak (2-0-0 overall), a 2007 4A state tournament team, scored the lone goal of the night in the 61st minute.
“We made a mistake on the back post … It was a pretty good game, back and forth. We both had opportunities,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Ken Huggins said.
Huggins was still happy with the way his team performed.
The Hawks (1-0), a two-win team a year ago, have a roster full of sophomores.
“This team is still pretty young. We have a lot of sophomores that are learning how to play together,” Huggins added.
One of those sophomores is goalkeeper Ben Winters, who helped lead the Hawks defense to shutting down a potent Kamiak offense.
“He made some outstanding stops. He’s the vocal leader of the team,” Higgins added.
