EDMONDS — The Mountlake Terrace Hawks are starting to make believers out of the rest of the baseball teams in the Western Conference’s South Division.
The Hawks scored four runs in the first two innings before cruising to a 7-4 victory over Edmonds-Woodway Wednesday at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
The victory was Terrace’s fifth straight and kept the Hawks undefeated in league play with a 7-0 record (8-3 overall).
Catcher Paul Clingan got the Hawks off to a fast start, blasting a three-run home run in the first inning. Pitcher Kyle Barisic was solid, giving up three runs in five innings of work.
A season after finishing 7-9 in league, the Hawks are off to their best start in years.
Terrace’s success doesn’t come as a surprise to Warriors coach Matt Barker.
“I thought they were really good last year,” Barker said. “They had a bunch of injuries and their record did indicate how they played.”
Barker said that the Hawks, “probably have two of the top four pitchers (in the South Division) and their relief pitching is real strong.”
Warriors’ senior Kyle Long seemed to have the only success against the Hawks pitching, batting 4-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI.
Edmonds-Woodway and Mountlake Terrace will face each other for the second and final time in the regular season on Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School.
