PREP ROUNDUP: Meadowdale earns shot at state

EDMONDS — Senior midfielder Ryan Olson scored two goals, a first-half penalty kick, and a game-winner midway through the second half as the Meadowdale Mavericks edged the Ferndale Golden Eagles to keep their state playoff hopes alive.

Meadowdale eliminated Ferndale from the 3A District 1 tournament and faces Shorecrest at 1 p.m. Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at Edmonds Stadium. Shorecrest defeated Meadowdale twice during the regular season.

Mount Vernon 1, Shorecrest 0 (shootout): At Edmonds, Shorecrest lost 4-3 in the shootout as Mount Vernon clinched a 3A state berth. Shorecrest plays Meadowdale in a winner-to-state game on Saturday.

Anacortes 1, Archbishop Murphy 0 (shootout): At Mt. Vernon, the Wildcats and Seahawks battled for 80 minutes and two overtimes before Anacortes outshot Archbishop Murphy 4-2 in the shootout to win the 2A District 1 loser-out game. Anacortes faces Sultan Saturday in a winner-to-state contest.

Bothell 1, Eastlake 0: At Sammamish, Michael Rogers knocked home a shot from 25 yards out in the 61st minute to provide the Cougars with the Kingco 4A tournament win and a spot in the state tournament, where it face the winner of Saturday’s Beemer-South Kitsap game.

Wesco 3A meet: At Mill Creek, Ivana Krommelova of Arlington and Alena Owen of Shorecrest, the two top seeds, advanced to the championship final with semifinal victories. Both players earned places in next week’s 3A District 1 tournament.

Alona Personius had a triple for the Vikings, who saw their hopes for a district playoff berth dashed with the loss.

Cedarcrest 11, Granite Falls 0: At Duvall, Hillary Barker struck out nine Granite Falls hitters, allowing only one Tiger to reach base as the Red Wolves blanked Granite Falls in the Cascade Conference regular season finale for both teams. Erica Taylor hit a solo home run in the second inning and Sara House added a two-run shot in the sixth as Cedarcrest scored in every inning but the fourth. The Red Wolves open the 2A District 1 tournament next Wednesday in Sedro Woolley as a No. 1 seed while the Tigers must win a play-in game on Monday to advance.

Wesco North meet: At Camano Island, Oak Harbor’s Brittany Loveng scored 58 Stableford points to edge Snohomish’s Shannon Nichols by one point to earn medalist honors, but the Panthers beat the Wildcats in the team competition as the golfers gear up for next week’s District 1 tournaments. The 3A golfers tee up on Tuesday with the 4As playing Wednesday. All-league honors will be determined today.
