EVERETT — Four people suffered minor injuries in a dramatic two-car accident on I-5 just north of the Highway 526 interchange in Everett on Thursday afternoon.

Two trucks — a pickup and a landscape truck — went off the freeway to the right, took out 15 sections of concrete barrier and went down a 70-foot embankment, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The landscape truck contained a driver and two passengers, while the pickup contained only a driver. All four suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and were taken to Providence Everett Medical Center for treatment.

“It could have been a lot worse,” State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said.

Traffic on northbound I-5 backed up more than a mile after the 5:15 p.m. accident, while two lanes were closed for about an hour. One of the lanes was reopened shortly before 6:30 p.m.

A witness told troopers that another vehicle quickly zipped across three lanes of traffic after entering I-5 from the Highway 526 onramp, cutting off the pickup and sending it into the landscaping truck. This account, however, could not be confirmed, Leary said.

Police did not locate a third vehicle. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the State Patrol at 360-658-2588.
