Are fuel cells the future of flight?

In early April in Madrid, Spain, the Boeing Co. flew a manned airplane powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

It that the way of the future?

Specialists will discuss the technology and the aircraft at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Future of Flight museum, 8415 Paine Field Blvd., Mukilteo.

Admission is free to the Boeing Theater.

Historical society plans mill program

The Lake Stevens Historical Society invites the public to its annual general meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cavelero Mid-High School, 8220 24th St. SE.

Eric Erickson of Anacortes plans to present a program about the history of mills and logging in Snohomish County.

Also on the agenda are election of board members and honoring docents of the Lake Stevens Museum.

Everett Animal Shelter benefit

The Riverside Neighborhood Association meets at 6:45 tonight at North Middle School, 2514 Rainier Ave., Everett.

The meeting includes a report from police, executive board elections and a visit from Hilary Hager with the Everett Animal Shelter.

There will also be an auction, with desserts for people and treats for pets, to benefit the animal shelter.

Everett police officer Tim Reeves and his recently retired German shepherd police dog, Yasko, may drop by.

Mark calendars for Silvana Fair

The Silvana Fair Board is gearing up for the Silvana Fair, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26.

Member Kathy Larson says it’s never rained at the one-day Silvana shindig.

Teaching students offered scholarship

Sno-Isle Unit 22 of the Washington State School Retirees Association offers a $1,000 renewable scholarship to a prospective teacher candidate.

Interested students should already have been accepted into the education department at any four-year state university. Funds will be available for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Applicants must be state residents with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Deadline for the receipt of applications is Sunday.
