Prep boys tennis: Shorewood handles tough opponent 7-0

SHORELINE — Arnie Moreno, head coach of the Shorewood boys tennis team, knew that Meadowdale (2-1 overall) would be a challenge for the undefeated Thunderbirds. But Shorewood (3-0) was ready for them and swept all seven matches en route to the Wesco South victory on Friday at Shoreview Park.

Tristan Reni battled Meadowdale’s Scott Bohmke in the No. 1 singles match and the Thunderbirds took the lead after a hard battle.

“Even though it was 6-2, 6-3, it was a tough match and both played at a high level of tennis,” said Moreno. “I’d like to compliment Scott for being a tenacious player who pushed Tristan as hard as he could.”

The Shorewood singles players continued to play strong and Scott McConnell, Spencer Shin and Sam Olson all added wins.

The doubles teams, which improved over their first two matches of the season according to Moreno, also performed well for Shorewood.

“I thought the doubles really stepped it up today,” said Moreno. “Aaron McCall and Hunter Nelson came together really well, which led our doubles.”
