Dine and dance for historical society

A Granite Falls Historical Society dinner dance is planned for Saturday night.

Entertainment will be provided by The Jangles and spaghetti is on the menu.

The event is planned for 7 p.m. at the Granville Grange, 9401 163rd Ave. NE, Granite Falls.

Tickets cost $20 and will benefit the museum.

Whidbey horse volunteers sought

Washington State University Extension’s Agriculture Sustainability and Land Stewardship Program seeks graduates of the Horses for Clean Water programs with horse or livestock properties in Island County.

Help teach others the how-tos of chore efficiency as well as mud, manure and pasture management.

It’s Oktoberfest in Edmonds Thursday

The South County Senior Center hosts its annual German Oktoberfest from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds.

The celebration includes Bavarian-style music, dancing, singing, a sausage and sauerkraut dinner and refreshments.

The cost is $10 for members; $14 for nonmembers.

Columbus Day brings closures

Monday is Columbus Day. Here are some resulting closures:

Government: Federal offices will be closed. Most state and local offices will be open.

Schools: Varies by district.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses will be open, most banks will be closed.

Transportation: Community Transit, Sound Transit and Everett Transit will be on regular schedules. State ferries will also be on regular schedules.
