Snohomish Panthers fall 26-25 to Tahoma

COVINGTON — After a fourth place finish last year at state by the Snohomish wrestling team, Panthers coach Rob Zabel said the goal this year is to be competitive with the best teams and to build on previous success.
Chris Feist at Tahoma High School in Covington has a similar goal for his team, which was ninth overall in last year’s state tournament.
In order to see where their respective teams are from a competitive standpoint, Zabel and Feist set up a meeting early in the season, and Tahoma was able to edge Snohomish 26-25 on Saturday.
“I think this will serve as a motivator for us,” Zabel said.
With Snohomish down heading into the final match Mark Morrill gave his best effort, and although he earned the major decision, it was not enough to overcome the Tahoma lead.
Zabel said the Panthers don’t have any glaring weaknesses or vulnerable aspects of their game but they need to eliminate bad habits and figure out how to win against top competition despite whatever adversity befalls them.
“We need to make sure we don’t leave things in officials’ hands,” Zabel said.
