LYNNWOOD — Julia Nealer learned a little about perseverance Wednesday night.

Nealer, Lynnwood’s ace pitcher, struck out 19 and Kelsie Mason singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Royals defeated Snohomish 2-1 a nonleague softball game at Lynnwood High School.

Both teams were scoreless through the first nine innings. The international tie-breaker rule took effect in the 10th, and each team started with a runner on second base.

Nealer pitched a complete game to pick up the win and improve to 6-3 on the season.

Snohomish starter Breonna Chrisman struck out 11 batters in six innings. Martina Gordillo picked up the loss in relief.

Snohomish’s Pam Post batted 1-for-2 and hit an RBI in the 10th inning to temporarily put Snohomish up 1-0.

Lynnwood walked in one run to tie the score, then Mason hit an RBI single to end the game.
