PREP ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck overtakes Kamiak

MUKILTEO — Marysville-Pilchuck might as well thank the Mighty Marlins.
The Tomahawks feature a core of eight girls who are members of the club team, and M-P head coach Jackie LeGore-Hodgins said that their presence is giving the Tomahawks, “… more depth than we have ever had, today we were strong with our wins. It’s a very exciting time, and we are just taking it one meet at a time,”
Marysville-Pilchuck won nine of 12 swimming events to defeat Kamiak 102-83 Tuesday in a non-conference meet, improving the Tomahawks’ record to 2-0. Kamiak is now 0-2.
Tomahawks’ freshman Hannah Taylor achieved two state qualifying times — in the 100-yard butterfly (1 minute, 0.64 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.48) — and the Tomahawks won the 200 medley relay in 1:58.67 and 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.31.
“Last year we didn’t have Hannah (Taylor), who is our freshman star, when you get someone like that on your team you can notice it, the speed is there,” LeGore-Hodgins said.
“Just for her (Taylor) to be able to enter high school and be pulling her own like that. She is crushing (times). She is so coachable, an absolute gift, and a great teammate.”
Kamiak’s Louise Moores achieved a state qualifying time of 25.06 in the 50 freestyle, and also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.06.
