MARYSVILLE — Archbishop Murphy needed a shootout on Thursday night to finally foil the goalkeeping efforts of Lakewood’s Miranda Head. The Wildcats edged Lakewood four shots to three in the shootout for a 1-0 Cascade Conference victory.

“We had the ball in their end of the field a lot of the time, we just couldn’t get it past their goalkeeper,” Archbishop Murphy coach Dick Henderson said. “She did a great job.”

According to Lakewood (3-1 league, 5-1 overall) coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth, Head had 22 saves.

“She just kind of reminded me of a big center in basketball that you try and change your shot because they are blocking everything,” Henderson said.

“The keeper made some great saves to get us to OT,” Wohlgemuth said.

Lindsey Bos, Meagan Duke, Alli Beard and Stephanie Conrad all got shots past Head in the shootout. Lakewood made three shots, but missed an opportunity to tie, when Alexa Hughes made a save for the Wildcats (4-0, 5-0).
