LANGLEY — Although they were in striking distance the whole night, the South Whidbey volleyball team could not get over the top against undefeated Archbishop Murphy, which triumphed 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 Tuesday in a Cascade Conference match.
South Whidbey dropped to 5-2 in league and overall. In the losing effort the Falcons were led by Katie Holt’s eight kills and Linden Firethorne’s four blocks. The Falcons had their chances to knock off the Wildcats but never converted.
“We made some mental errors,” South Whidbey coach Mandy Jones said.
The Falcons had little answer for the attack of Wildcat senior Rebecca Gotz, who had 17 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Junior Dani Baehm quarterbacked the Murphy attack with 38 assists and three aces. Sophomore Hannah Linsenmayer held down the defense for Murphy recording 28 digs and adding two aces.
