EVERETT – A fire at a house south of here caused more than $100,000 in damage this afternoon.
Neighbors called for help about 12:30 p.m. when they spotted smoke pouring from the roof of a house in the 11200 block of First Avenue W., Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
No one was home at the time.
Fire crews rushed from the fire station just 12 blocks south of the home, Hynes said. They could see a large column of black smoke rising from the two-story house.
It took firefighters half an hour to control the blaze, she said. The home’s attic and second floor were damaged heavily, and the house is uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
